Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Who Is Consumer Credit Counselling?

Established in 1991, Consumer Credit Counselling has been assisting Canadians who find themselves with credit and payment difficulties.   We are licensed by the Ministry of the Attorney General for the Province of British Columbia, and as such, we are required to be Bonded with the Bond payable to the Province of B.C.  Our counsellors are also licensed by the Province, and have a total of 45 years experience in the credit industry.  We are also members of several credit and business reporting associations and a founding member of the Canadian Association of Independent Credit Counselling Agencies.

How Do You Assist Your Clients?

Our program is designed to assist Canadians who are having difficulties in maintaining the monthly payments on credit cards and unsecured loans, are receiving calls from collection agencies or warnings of impending legal or garnishee action.   Our clients are also unable to obtain a debt consolidation loan from a Bank or Credit Union.   Although we do not lend money, we work with our clients to develop a monthly budget that will allow them to not only maintain their basic standard of living, but will let them make one easy monthly payment to become DEBT FREE.

Do The Creditors Go Along With The Program?

Yes!  They are Credit Professionals and recognize that sometimes people run into financial difficulties because of job loss, marital problems or illness.   They work with us to help you get back on your feet financially and become DEBT FREE.

Do You Charge A Fee?

Yes, we do charge a monthly fee for this service.  This fee is deducted from your monthly payment and is very nominal.  We are here to get you out of debt - not create debt.  The creditors either eliminate or reduce their monthly interest charges, which not only reduces the amount of time it takes for you to become DEBT FREE, but also offsets the monthly fee for this service.  As a result, your net cost for the program is usually nothing.

How Is My Personal Information Protected?

We take your privacy seriously.  Please check out our Privacy Policy for a detailed explanation.

I Am A Canadian Living Outside Of Canada. Can You Help?

Yes, we can.  Our program is designed to assist RESIDENTS OF CANADA or CANADIANS LIVING OUTSIDE OF CANADA. You may have outstanding Canadian credit cards, unsecured loans, student loans or department store credit cards and have difficulty in maintaining the payments or are receiving calls from collection agencies. Complete the information form and e-mail it to us, along with the best time to call (Pacific Standard Time).  Please convert all expenses, income and debts to Canadian dollars.

How Do I Get Started?

It's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3

1)  Complete and electronically submit (or mail) the enclosed Budget Work Sheet.

2)  Then complete and fax (or mail) the enclosed Account Detail Fax Form with the creditor account numbers.

3)  A Counsellor will then call you to review your budget, determine the monthly payment amount and estimate your DEBT FREEDOM date.
